Engagement details: Leadership

Reading some of Tom Peters lines, in his website, I find inspiration - I'm a big fan - but also some references for engagement theme.
As for almost anything, leadership is very important. Good leadership, of course. As for engagement to work you'll need good leadership in many levels, but not imposed leadership.
Tom Peters, in a post, lists some quotes he found, and I have to highlight one from Lao-Tsu: "To lead people, walk beside them...". This quote means a lot in leadership terms, but mostly, in engagement terms, because if some manager wants to start engagement initiatives, it has to start engaging himself first, walking beside people he wants to engage.
Forced engagement doesn't work.
